Design Approach
Subscribe automatically records information regarding Subscriptions such as how many times a Subscription has renewed and at what rate, what changes the subscriber has made to the Subscription since it was first purchased, and any other activity concerning a given Subscription that has occurred using the Subscribe Portal or APIs. This information is recorded and available to the customer service agent from within the Subscribe Portal. The Subscribe Activity.record API can record subscriber activity in Subscribe that otherwise would not be recorded. For example, a subscriber’s last login, last content viewed, and last time logged out. Activity.record supports the following Activity Types:- Cancelation
- Fulfillment
- NamedValue
- Phone
- URIView
- Usage
- The Email and Phone Activity Type can be used to track contact with the subscriber. If you are using an automated system for subscriber phone or email contact, then you can also record that activity in Subscribe. If the contact is manual (for example, the agent manually generates an email and/or calls the subscriber) that activity can be recorded in Subscribe as a Note on the subscriber’s account using the Subscribe Portal.
- The Fulfillment Activity Type can be used to show that the purchased subscription has been enabled and placed in the subscriber account for subsequent use on another login.
- The NamedValue Activity Type allows you to specify name and value parameters of your choosing, both of which will display in the Subscribe Portal.
- The Usage Activity Type can be used to record the times the subscriber makes use of the subscription as a paid feature. You can use the Login and Logout Activity Types to record the total number of minutes used, or record the number of downloads or accesses to the purchased item or other paid feature. It is best not to include free use in the Usage record, so that paid usage can be clearly specified.
- Subscriber name and email address.
- The IP address from which the Activity originated. (If the IP address does not display in the Subscribe Portal even after you have provided it to the Activity object, include the IP address in the text for the Activity, so the IP address is visible within the text field which displays in the Subscribe Portal.)
Alternative Flows And Applications
If you are using Vindicia’s ChargeGuard™ service (see Vindicia ChargeGuard™) to help manage and fight Chargebacks, Vindicia recommends that you record any subscriber activity on Subscribe that could aid Vindicia Chargeback Analysts in defending you against unwarranted or fraudulent Chargebacks. This includes activity related to the subscriber’s use of the purchased subscription. This also includes any contact with the subscriber (to be most effective for challenging Chargebacks, the activity record should identify the subscription associated with each contact) as well as any time the subscriber has used or otherwise accessed the subscription.
