Design Approach
Account Updater is a service offered by some Payment Providers. When activated, the Payment Processor automatically publishes any changes to a subscriber’s credit card details, for example, when a replacement credit card number is issued. After you activate the Account Updater service with your Payment Provider, you can direct Vindicia to activate Account Updater in Subscribe. With Account Updater activated, the subscriber’s credit card updates feed automatically into Subscribe. Note: The Subscribe Account Updater feature works in tandem with the Account Updater feature for the Payment Provider. If your Payment Provider does not offer Account Updater or you have not yet activated the Account Updater feature with your Payment Provider, Vindicia cannot activate the Account Updater feature in Subscribe. When a Payment Method is updated in Subscribe as a result of Account Updater, Subscribe applies the following logic:- If the Subscription is in Soft-Fail, the Payment Method on the Autobill is updated to the new card. So a transaction with the new card is automatically attempted on the next retry date.
- If the Subscription is in Hard-Fail and is still within the retry period (that is, has not gone past the last retry milestone—see Manage Grace Period And Retry Strategy for Failed Payments), then the
next_activityis set to tomorrow and thetransaction_billingis updated to be in soft error. Therefore a retry transaction with the updated card will be attempted the following day.
- On Payment Failure: This is the default behavior in Subscribe. A credit card update request is sent to the Payment Provider for any failed payment request (soft or hard failure).
- Prebilling: Subscribe can send an account update request to the Payment Provider prior to billing a subscriber’s account. A response to that request is usually received in 2-4 days. Vindicia recommends that if you choose to request updates prior to upcoming billings, send the request to the processor at least 8 days prior to billing.
- Periodic: Subscribe supports periodic update requests sent monthly, quarterly, or annually.
