Design Approach
In Subscribe, a Campaign can either be a Promotion offering a promotional price or a Coupon. In this use case, you are defining a Promotion Campaign. to learn more about creating Coupons, see Set Up Coupon Codes. Promotion Campaigns allow you to generate a single Campaign code that can be distributed to multiple customers. A promotion code is not unique to individual users and is typically publicly available through mass distribution. Promotion Campaigns are added to the Subscription at the time of purchase and provide either a percentage based discount or a flat cash (Dollar) value discount. The duration of the discount can either be date-based or cycle-based, meaning based on the number of times the subscription renews. Promotional Campaigns do not require the generation of a unique Coupon Code and are by their nature multi-use. Promotion Campaigns are best used for broad marketing campaigns that are not limited in terms of the audience they are targeting. For more information about Campaigns in Subscribe, see the Campaigns chapter in the Subscribe Merchant Portal User Guide.Alternative Flows And Applications
- Campaign Promotions can be used for general marketing campaigns. For example “Visit our website and key in code SUMRFUN to receive 10% off your first month of service”. In this example, the application of the promotion results in a 10% credit and the only way to get the credit is to use the promotion code.
- Campaign Promotions do not have to provide a discount. They can simply be used to drive subscribers to your website. For example “Visit our website and key in code SUMRFUN to get your first month of service free”. When combined with free trial offers, Campaign Promotions drive the user to your website but the “discount” (in the form of a free trial period) is built into the definition of the subscription. The user receives the free trial period whether they use the promotion code or not. For more information about free trial offers, see Configure a Free Trial Offering for a Given Subscription.
Configure Promotional Pricing in the Subscribe Portal

- Determine which products require promotional prices and at what discount.
-
In the Subscribe Merchant Portal 2.0, select your starting point from the following options:
- To create a new Campaign, click the + New button and select Campaign.
- To clone an existing Campaign, select the relevant existing campaign (ID) from Catalog > Campaigns and click Clone.
- To edit an existing inactive Campaign, select the relevant existing campaign (ID) from Catalog > Campaigns and click Edit.
-
Define the following fields in the Details Pane:
- In the ID field , enter your unique campaign identifier (alphanumeric up to 255 characters).
- In the Name field, enter a meaningful name for the Campaign (up to 255 characters).
- In the Description field, enter a description for the Campaign (up to 255 characters).
- Select the Start Date and End Date. Start Date defines the first date the campaign will be available for use, while End Data defines the last date the campaign can be redeemed. If the given campaign does not have a specific end date use a date far out in the future like Dec 31, 2080.
- For the Type field, select Promotion from the drop-down list.
-
Define the following fields in the Campaign Grants Pane:
- Select the Currency radio button to provide a flat amount discount. By default the USD currency is displayed. From the drop-down list select the relevant currency and then enter the fixed amount. The amount entered is the discount that will be taken off of the full priced product when applied to the subscription. For example enter 10 for $10 off. Note: When you offer flat amount promotions, you must define a different promotion Campaign for each different currency.

-
Define the following fields in the Campaign Duration Pane:
- Select the Billing Cycle radio button to offer the discount over several billing cycles. Enter the number of cycles for which the discount is relevant. For example, for a subscription billed monthly, enter 3 to grant the discount for a 3 month period.

- In the Aliases field, enter an alternate alphanumeric string to be used as the promotional code to redeem the campaign discount. Aliases can be alternative spellings or languages for the code. Subscribe will accept any of the aliases entered to redeem the promotional discount.
- When you’re done, click Save or Update.
- Repeat the steps above to create additional Promotional Campaigns.
