Announcements

This release includes the following announcements:

Visa Best Practices for Response Codes Usage

Effective April 17, 2021, Visa is re-allocating its response codes to four different categories. The end-purpose of this change is to maximize the efficiency of the retry process by defining clear response codes and behaviors. For more information, see Visa’s best practices guide. The following categories, each defining the retry policy, were defined:
  • Category 1: Issuer will never approve transaction (reattempt not allowed)
  • Category 2: Issuer cannot approve the transaction at this time (reattempt allowed)
  • Category 3: Data Quality concern (re-validate data prior to reattempt)
  • Category 4: Generic response code (reattempt allowed) In addition, when re-attempt is allowed, there is a limitation of 15 attempts over 30 days. Merchants must revise their current retry policy to ensure that the 15 retries within 30 days limitation is avoided. A fine of 10c/transaction is expected.
As a first step, Vindicia has updated the retry logic of the following Visa error codes from Hard Fail (Retry Not Allowed) to Soft Fail (Retry Allowed) for all corresponding payment processor codes, this is expected to improve authorization and capture rates:
  • 03: Invalid Merchant
  • 62: Restricted Card
  • 78: No Account
  • 93: Transaction Cannot Be Completed
For more details, see Worldpay Network Bulletin. In future releases, Vindicia will update the system behavior to enforce these changes by doing the following:
  • Ensuring the response codes are mapped to soft or hard failures in accordance with these new definitions.
  • Reviewing merchant configurations and fixing situations where hard failures codes were mapped to soft failures

Reports 1.0 Upcoming Deprecation Announcement

Payment Features

This release includes the following new payment features and support:

Gift Card Integration via Topps Digital services

Gift cards are prepaid cards that serve as popular payment method for the unbanked population to purchase digital services. In this release, gift card payment support has been added to Subscribe as part of the REST API for Topps Digital services cards. This same flow can also serve other gift card providers in the future. Subscribe Merchant Portal support for redeeming a gift card will be available in the next release. The integration serves to redeem a Topps gift card in Subscribe. The redeemed gift card is transferred to a currency credit on the customer account and can then serve as payment balance for existing or new subscriptions. The integration only enables full redemption of the gift card and the card itself is not re-loadable. As a rare occurrence, a redemption call can be reversed as long as the full balance is available and the amount will then be returned to the card. In the Subscribe REST API, Gift Card and Gift Card Redemption endpoints have been added. A single gift card redemption call will initiate the flow of redemption as well as update the Gift card and Account objects. The Gift Card pin number serves as a secured unique Identifying number and is therefore stored as a hashed component in the system. (VIN-7824)
