# Cancel a Subscription for Non-Payment

Subscribe automatically cancels a Subscription if the subscriber's payment is not received by the end of the grace period.

* **Use Case Number:** 2-4-08
* **Completed By:** Vindicia Solution Architect
* \*\*Estimated Completion Time:\*\*NA

## Design Approach

This use case is closely related to the [Manage Grace Period And Retry Strategy for Failed Payments](2803_r_manageGracePeriod) use case.

After Subscribe has exhausted all retry attempts and the Subscription has reached the end of the defined grace period, Subscribe automatically cancels the Subscription for non-payment.

In the diagram below, Subscribe has been configured to attempt 4 retries over a 27 day period. In this example, if Subscribe is not able to collect the payment within 27 days after the initial billing attempt, then Subscribe cancels the Subscription for non-payment.

**Note:** Subscribe does not attempt to bill a credit card that has returned a hard failure code during the grace period until the subscriber provides a new payment method. When the new payment method is provided, Subscribe attempts to collect payment (see [Enable Subscribers to Update Credit Card on File For a Suspended Subscription](2407_r_updateCreditCardSuspended)).
