# Enable Customers to Purchase a Single Use Product Without Purchasing a Subscription

You can enable customers to purchase only a single use Product without purchasing a Subscription. To enable this functionality, you must use the Subscribe APIs.

* \*\*Use Case Number:\*\*2-2-07
* **Completed By:** Software Developer
* **Estimated Completion Time:** \<3 days

## Basic Scenario

Single use products allow customers to purchase a service that does not recur. For more information, see [Configure Single Use Products Using the Subscribe Portal](2105_r_configureSingleUsePortal#).

## Design Approach

Use the Vindicia Subscribe Portal or API to create the single use Product. After the Product is active, rebuild your product catalog cache. The customer can then logs into your storefront application and select the single use product for purchase (which is now displayed because it is active and in the product catalog cache). The storefront uses the attributes of the single use product in conjunction with the customer account and payment information to call the transactions endpoint to create a one-time Transaction.

If Entitlements are in scope, upon successful completion of the one-time Transaction, grant the appropriate Entitlements (from the single-event product attributes) to the customer using the accounts endpoint.

## Video Use Case Demonstration

In the use case video demonstration, two different examples are covered:

1. Selling a movie rental as a one time purchase with Entitlements that are granted for a month.
2. Selling a digital document as a one time purchase with Entitlements that last for a lifetime.

## Create the Single Use Transaction Using Subscribe APIs

* Set up an account with your payment processor of choice.
* Ensure Vindicia has been authorized as a presenter on the payment processor account.
* Set up the single use Product in Subscribe (see [Configure Single Use Products Using the Subscribe Portal](2105_r_configureSingleUsePortal#)).

To create the one-time Transaction:

1. Create the single use Product in Subscribe using either the Portal or the API.

2. Use the products endpoint to update your product catalog cache.

   For example: `GET https://api.staging.us-west.vindicia.com/products:product`

3. Use the transactions endpoint to create the one-time transaction.

   For example: `POST https://api.staging.us-west.vindicia.com/Transactions`

4. (optional) Use the accounts endpoint to create the entitlements grant for the single use content.

   For example: `POST https://api.staging.us-west.vindicia.com/accounts/:account/entitlements`

   ****Sample Code****

   [2-2-07 Sample Code](https://github.com/Vindicia/CashBoxRESTCodeSamples/tree/master/SubE-2-007)

* Proper account and payment method objects are created in Subscribe.
* One-time transaction is generated, including taxation if applicable, and charged to the customer’s on-file payment information.
* Account has been granted appropriate entitlements if applicable.
