# Payment Processing

Payment processing is the heart of Subscribe. Subscribe supports many different payment providers and payment methods. This chapter describes the following configurations:

* [Configuration options that impact payments and transaction processing](paymentProcessingConnsideration_r)
* [Specific configuration per payment providers](PaymentProvidersSpecificConfiguration)

Payment Processing is configured per merchant. For every Merchant there are several steps that will need to be configured:

1. Defining the generic payment processing parameters, such as cashbox\_transaction\_prefix, in the Payment Provider configuration UI of the Merchant configuration. See [Payment Merchant Options](paymentProcessingConnsideration_r) for more information.
2. Defining the retry cadence. See the [Retry Policy](retryPolicy) chapter for more information.
3. Defining the payment providers that are used by the merchant.
   * Each payment provider has specific configuration settings and are primarily defined through name value pairs and include authentication details and specific behavior. See the [Payment Provider Specific Configuration](PaymentProvidersSpecificConfiguration) chapter for more information.
   * Defining which the Routing rules in the Routing Rules configuration UI of the Merchant configuration. Routing rules are an important configuration method for routing transactions to Payment Providers. Each merchant can have one or more payment providers configured for them. See the [Configuration Method - Payment Providers Routing Rules](routingRulesAbout) chapter for more information
