# Merchant Details

The following general merchant and system settings should be configured when first setting up a merchant:

| Merchant Id | Automatic | The merchant’s ID, automatically generated by Vindicia. | This field is defined by the system and can't be edited |
| merchant\_select\_only | Required | Flag used for reporting purposes. Defines whether a merchant only uses Retain or uses Subscribe as well. | This flag is used by the data platform to decide what merchant to aggregate for the Retain dashboards.Enter value 1 if only Retain is used. Enter 0 if Subscribe is used. Default value 0. |
| allow\_slash\_in\_identifier | Optional | Allowed only for legacy SOAP merchants.Identifies if forward slashes are allowed in id fields. Note: Forward slash is not supported for REST API use. | Default value - 0; 1 allow |
