# Chargebacks

This section is relevant only for payment providers that provide a chargeback feed.

A chargeback is a reversal of a credit card transaction, typically initiated when a customer disputes the legitimacy of a financial transaction directly with the card provider and not the merchant.. When a chargeback occurs, the amount of the disputed transaction is charged back, often with an additional payment processor fee. If the merchant cannot prove the legitimacy of the original transaction, they lose the product sold, payment for the product, transaction processing fees, applicable currency conversion commissions, and any additional chargeback processing fees.

Vindicia Subscribe stores details of the chargeback and in that way ensures merchants are not meeting the chargeback limits set by payment providers. The Subscribe Portal displays Chargebacks filed against the merchant.

When a Chargeback datafeed is available for the Payment Provider used by the Merchant, the Merchant needs to submit a request to the Merchant's Payment Provider rep to set up the Chargeback data feedfor Vindicia to receive the Merchant's Chargebacks.

For a list of payment provider providing data feeds, see [Payment Provider Integration Matrix > Automatic Chargeback Feed column](https://docs.vindicia.com/bundle/subscribePaymentProviderIntegration/page/topics/paymentProviderIntegration_r.html)
