# Vertex—Merchant Setup in Vindicia Subscribe for Sales Tax

Under Merchant Configuration (whether in PROD or in Staging Portal), the required settings to enable the connection to a Vertex Sales Tax engine are as follows:

| **Required** | **Setting** | **Sample Value** | Description |
| - | - | - | - |
| required | ST\_VENDORS | Vertex | With this setting, you can select whether you need to collect Sales Tax or not, and if so, select from: Avalara or Vertex. |
| optional | ST\_COUNTRY\_SUBSTITUTION | null | |
| optional | STV\_VRTX\_COMPANY | iwcl\_sales\_tax\_vertex | |
| optional | STV\_VRTX\_DEDUCED\_COUNTRIES | null | By default, if you set to collect Sales Tax using Vertex, the way tax is being calculated is: US/CA are always tax exclusive, and all other countries are tax inclusive. On this setting, if you leave it blank, it works as by default. If you place a country code, the tax inclusive/exclusive behavior reverses (only for the country in question). |
| required | STV\_VRTX\_POST\_WITH\_INVOICE | 1 | 1 = Capture Post uses INVOICE 0 = Capture Post uses DISTRIBUTE Recommended /Default setting is 1. |
| required | STV\_VRTX\_HOST\_URI | [https://demo296.vertexinc.com](https://demo296.vertexinc.com/) | This is the URL where the Vertex engine can be accessed, regardless of whether it is a production or a test environment. |
| required | STV\_VRTX\_HOST\_VERSION | null | Vindicia Subscribe supports two Vertex versions: 6 and 7. If you leave this filed blank, it will use the default 7. Default setting = 7 |
| required | STV\_VRTX\_TRUSTED\_ID | jl4^y0tht/\&N | |
| required | STV\_VRTX\_PASSWORD | GWdAzSU6E3/\\ | |
| required | STV\_VRTX\_USERNAME | [user01.Demo63@vertexinc.com](mailto:user01.Demo63@vertexinc.com) | |
| When the required fields in the merchant settings are confirmed and validated, the Products and Billing Plans must be given a tax classification that corresponds to the settings of the Vertex instance. | | | |
