# GoCardless Direct Debit

## Overview

Vindicia Subscribe supports the GoCardless UK Direct Debit payment method for both one-time and recurring payment transactions. This payment option requires approval by the subscriber, which is stored by the merchant as a mandate. Vindicia Subscribe and GoCardless also store the details of these mandates.

This article provides details to support collection of payment using the GoCardless UK Direct Debit payment method. Use this information in conjunction with the integration guides provided to merchants by GoCardless and the Vindicia Subscribe API documents.

## Feature Summary

During the purchase flow, when the subscriber chooses to pay with Direct Debit in the United Kingdom, the merchant must collect bank details and get the subscriber’s approval to charge their bank account. For a Subscription, recurring payments can be completed without further subscriber involvement. For one-time transactions, the merchant must get approval for each purchase.

## Availability and Limitations

1. UK Direct Debit is available only in the United Kingdom with currency type GBP (British Pound).

2. Subscriptions created with the Direct Debit payment method, shipping country GB, and currency GBP use the GoCardless UK Direct Debit Payment method.

**Note:** Subscriptions created using the Subscribe portal with the above payment method will not successfully transact as mandates are not created for these Subscriptions when created using the Subscribe portal.

3. In the merchant configuration, Vindicia Subscribe\_TRANSACTION\_PREFIX can only be two characters long as GoCardless has an 18 character limitation for the combined length of transaction ID hyphenated by mandate ID.
