# Refunds in Subscribe

Subscribe allows Refunds as a way to provide funds back to the customer. It serves as a means to reverse a one-time or recurring charge. Refunds are always applied to original payment method used in the original transaction. A refund can only be executed against an existing, successfully captured transaction.

Subscribe lets you refund partially or the full original charge up to the original transaction amount. You can issue any number of refunds on a given transaction (until it has been fully refunded). If you wish to provide the customer additional compensation, more than the transaction amount, use [credits](credits) instead.

Refunds can be issued via the Subscribe API or via Subscribe Merchant Portal.

Subscribe Reports allow you to track and review the allocated refunds and work to improve the products and their delivery as well as develop a best practice approach for your customer service representatives.
