# Vindicia Retain - 2024.07 Release Notes

Production Release Date: August 7th, 2024

## What's Happening with Retain?

Vindicia Retain has undergone a redesign for its user experience. It now leverages Vindicia's proven payment recovery and smart retry functionality along with additional touch points that make it easier and faster to use.

What's coming bulletins and Release notes for Vindicia Retain will be provided monthly in the [Vindicia Knowledge Center](https://docs.vindicia.com/category/releasenotes) listing new features, functionality, and enhancements that will be made available.

To our new Retain merchants, we say welcome to Vindicia world. Let's start recovering those lost payments while extending your customers' lifetime.

## Announcements

### Data Hashing Upcoming Changes

As part of a security enhancement, Vindicia is ensuring the security of our platform and protecting merchant data by upgrading its internal hashing algorithm to SHA512. The SHA512 algorithm provides a more robust hash function that reduces the risk of brute-force attacks and ensures that hashed sensitive information is more secure and less susceptible to security breaches.

During the month of July, the new capability will be released to Vindicia's staging environment for extended testing.

**What it means to you?**

Vindicia continues to accept all hashed data as SHA1 as was previously the case with no change to how you provide hashed data. Vindicia will respond with data hashed as SHA512. If you would like to store the hashed data, adjust your system to hold the longer format. This behavior will be occurring from Beginning of August in Vindicia staging environments.

## Retain Features

### Retain Hub Available Functionality

Vindicia is expanding the functionality available on the Retain Hub (Portal), providing a modern look-and-feel and clear user experience.

Retain Hub allows you to search for Transactions by different parameters, view reports, and better understand your data and performance.

Available functionality:

* **Advanced Transaction Search**: Search for submitted Transactions has been expanded to allow search based on date ranges, Transaction status and other filters. Retain Hub displays the result list and you can access the relevant Transaction to view detailed information, and a list of Retain retry attempts.

* **Transaction Refund Support**: Multiple captured Transactions can be selected and refunded from the Retain Hub search area. Additionally, specific refunds can be refunded from the Transaction detail page. Only full amount refunds are currently supported. Support for partial refunds will be available at a later time.

Additionally, Retain allows merchants to choose whether refunds in general can be processed by Retain. A merchant that decides not to allow refunds in Retain will process refunds in their billing system and any attempt to refund a captured Transaction in Retain will return an error.

* **Transaction Stop Support**: Transactions in Retry status can be stopped, to avoid further retry attempts and prevent capture. Single transactions can be stopped from the specific Transaction detail page.

* **Reports**: A vital tool that provides downloadable CSV reports and allows you to track the performance of Transactions submitted through File Upload or API. Reports can be generated as one-time or scheduled recurring. Users receive an email notification when reports are ready to download.

* **Data-centered Strategic Dashboards**: The Retain Dashboards provide you the power of **What** and let you dive deeper to also learn **Why**. This is actionable intelligence that empowers and steers you in your strategic business decisions.

* **Secure Access to Vindicia Merchant Portal via Vindicia IDP**: Vindicia Identity Provider offers secure access including multi-factor authentication, complex passwords, and easy-to-use interfaces. Also allows merchant admins to manage users themselves in a dedicated console.

* **Role-based Access**: Access and gain visibility to different areas of the Retain Portal based on your user role.

* **Transaction File Upload**: Retain's File Upload feature has been changed. You can now submit a file with your transactions via a dedicated SFTP safe upload. You can later view your Transactions in the Portal, to see their status and additional details. File Upload from the Portal is no longer supported.

* **Submission History Page and Validation for API-submitted Transactions**: Failed Transactions submitted to Retain REST API undergo an asynchronous post-submission system review to detect additional errors. Submission History page shows the daily Transaction submission and any detected errors.

## Retain RESTful APIs and Push Notifications

The new Retain REST APIs are available. These APIs provide extended search capabilities and improved performance, supports partial refunds for captured Transactions, and returns updated credit card numbers and expiration dates when a card is updated through Account Updater.

Additional calls will be added on an ongoing basis in future releases. For more information, see the [Retain REST Guide and OpenAPIs](https://docs.vindicia.com/bundle/b_retainRESTAPIGuideOpenAPIs/page/topics/retainAPIOverview_c.html).

Vindicia has introduced Webhooks (PUSH notifications) for Transaction and Refund events to proactively provide near real-time notifications of events as they occur.

Merchants wishing to receive Retain Push Notifications need to set up an endpoint to listen for these Push notifications. For more information, see the [Retain Feature Implementation Guide](https://docs.vindicia.com/bundle/b_retainImplementationGuide/page/topics/ProgGuide_PushNotifications.html). Contact Vindicia Client Technical Support to subscribe to Retain notifications.

### Paymentech Integration - Refund Authorization Support

In recent years, card issuers such as Visa and Mastercard have mandated return (refund) authorization.

What does this mean? Similar to a payment flow where an authorization is required prior to capture, the refund flow that merchants must follow will now require a purchase return authorization from the issuing banks before submitting a refund for processing.

The refund authorization flow ensures that the refund is legitimate and valid and that the funds will be returned to the customer promptly. It provides cardholders transparency and reliable updates of the pending refund.

From this release, Vindicia will support the refund authorization flow for Transactions processed with Paymentech payment provider by sending a refund authorization request on behalf of the merchant and when successful, by immediately sending a refund capture request.

For details about Refund Authorization, see [Refund Authorization Regulation Compliance](https://docs.vindicia.com/bundle/vindiciaPaymentRegulations/page/topics/refundAuthorizationCompliance.html).

## Bug Fixes

The following issues were solved in this release:

| Ticket | Title | Description |
| - | - | - |
| VIN-30385 | CyberSource Integration - Retry attempt sent incorrect Card-On-File value | A retry attempt added subsequentAuthFirst value. The issue was identified as an intermittent one, due to incomplete data load while fetching the transaction data during parallel processingThe issue was fixed. |
| VIN-30399 | Braintree Connect Integration - Refund errors | Refunds submitted to Vindicia for Braintree Connect remained in Processing status due to an error. The issue has been fixed. |
| VIN-30858 | Paymentech Integration Processing refunds for merchants using original transaction ID | An issue occurred when processing refunds for merchants using the original transaction IDs. The issue has been resolved. |

### Known Issues

This release has the following known issues:

* Retain Hub (Portal) is having intermittent network performance issues when searching for Transactions. We are working to address the issue.

As a workaround, reduce the date range search to receive results.

* Retain REST API is experiencing issues with BINs longer than 6 digits in API calls where transactions were submitted using a tokenized payment method (in credit\_card.account attribute). The issue is being investigated. (VIN-28904)
