# Payments

The Payment object is a record of a payment made against an outstanding balance. This object can be used to accept Merchant Accepted Payment methods such as cash or check or to record payments made with other active payment methods such as Paypal or credit cards. For a recorded payment, a corresponding transaction is generated and processed through the auth/capture cycle appropriate to the payment method.
