# Understanding the Attributes of the GiftCard Object

The `GiftCard` object encapsulates gift card details such as the card’s unique identification number (`pin`) and the processor that Subscribe should contact for redemption of the gift card. When you make the API call to redeem a gift card, Subscribe also assigns a unique `VID` to the corresponding `GiftCard` object, and stores the latest status of the gift card (such as whether it was redeemed or is still pending) in the `status` attribute of the `GiftCard` object.
